Cambodia is the poorest country in South East Asia, a place where poverty breaks up families. Though HOPE and MUSIC have made a huge impact on the lives of 100 kids in Battambang, the ex-military head-quarters of the Khmer Rouge.

Cyndi Tan (a.k.a Cyndi and the Drums) has just returned from 6 weeks of teaching drums in Cambodia. Based at the Cambodian Children’s Trust Activity Centre, Cyndi worked with kids from city slums aged 5 – 12 years old, teaching them rhythm games, and new empowering skills. After 3 years of planning, a successful Pozible Campaign to buy drums, and 100 hours of teaching, the Youth Centre Kids performed an amazing concert for parents, teachers and CCT Staff!

Cyndi is committed to continually resourcing the drum program, with funds for new hand-percussion, sticks, skins, and more drums. Cambodian Children’s Trust have also committed to the sustainability of the drum program by hiring a local Cambodian Music Teacher, who worked with Cyndi every during her stay.
